Twenty-four hand-coloured mushroom plates from Atlas des Champignons Comestibles et Vénéneux — the Atlas of Edible and Poisonous Mushrooms — by Léon Dufour, published in Paris in 1891. Restored, typeset, and prepared for printing at home.

Fifty-one species across twenty-four plates, each named in Latin and in French, and carrying the atlas's original mark: comestible, suspect, or vénéneux.

Read from the plates, not from a catalogue

Every species name in the provenance document was read off the plate itself. Names, accents and abbreviations are reproduced as the 1891 printer set them, including the figure numbers that run through the atlas.

A note on the edibility marks

This is a historical document. Nomenclature and edibility assessments have changed considerably since 1891, and several species marked comestible here are now known to be toxic. It is not a foraging guide.
